For speeding up remote data transmission and saving storage, a local maxima of a wavelet transform is used to compress the experimental data of HL-1M tokamak. It is shown that the compression algorithm reduces the data size to an average factor of 12, and the reconstructed data is better than the data which compressed by using a method of five point smoothing and sampling in an alternate data in keeping main features of the original data.
