Abstract: The Lindman's absorption boundary condition, which has been widely used in the FDTD method, is generalized to a special form suitable to the electromagnetic field calculation from the starting point of the absorption principle. Our 2D numerical simulations indicate that the P-polarized and S-polarized electromagnetic waves with a wide varity of incident angles can be well absorbed by left and right boundaries. The reflectivity of the electromagnetic energy at either boundary is less than 0.5%.
