Comb Filtering Properties of Total Reflection Tunnelling in Cylindrical Photonic Crystals

Abstract: To study comb filtering properties of tunnelling in total reflection of light in 1 D cylindrical photonic crystals, transition matrix method is adopted. Transmissivity of light is studied as incident angle is greater than full reflection angle. Tunnelling under condition of total reflection is found in transmitting waves. Good comb filtering characteristics is shown. Responses of tunnelling versus period, quantum number of mode, and cylinder radius are obtained. They are basis for design of high-quality comb filters.
